Summary

Kevin Burke and Chris "Doc" Wyatt, writers for the Amazon Original animated series Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina, join fan-favorite artist Selina Espiritu, colorist Diana Sousa, letterer Ariana Maher, and Matthew Mercer and Travis Willingham from the cast of Critical Role to bring Fjord's early years to life in this all-new hardcover graphic novel!

More than just an orcish face!

Growing up in an orphanage on the Menagerie Coast, Fjord Stone has never been comfortable with the assumptions people draw from his half-orc heritage。 But his sweet, sensitive nature will do him no favors in Port Damali。 Luckily, a chance encounter on the docks lands Fjord with a job, a mentor, and more adventure than he could ever dream of on the path that will eventually lead him to the rest of the Mighty Nein!

4 STARSCW: abuse, racism, bullying, assault, violence, bloodSolely story-wise, this would probably be more of a 3-star read but the Mighty Nein are so dear to me and I love them all so much, I couldn't give this any lower than 4 stars。 The art style was beautiful and I loved the framing of M9 seeing the Tide's Breath and Fjord remembering his origins。 That also caused the ending to be more uplifting after all the traumatic events Fjord recounted。Additionally, I really loved the reference to the 4 STARSCW: abuse, racism, bullying, assault, violence, bloodSolely story-wise, this would probably be more of a 3-star read but the Mighty Nein are so dear to me and I love them all so much, I couldn't give this any lower than 4 stars。 The art style was beautiful and I loved the framing of M9 seeing the Tide's Breath and Fjord remembering his origins。 That also caused the ending to be more uplifting after all the traumatic events Fjord recounted。Additionally, I really loved the reference to the animated title sequence of Campaign 2。 。。。more

I'm glad that Fjord's origin comic, similarly to Yasha's comic, was able to shed more light on Fjord's past and expand on what we already have seen in the show。Once more I wish it was a tad longer, but overall I enjoyed reading it and it was beautifully drawn and coloured。 I'm glad that Fjord's origin comic, similarly to Yasha's comic, was able to shed more light on Fjord's past and expand on what we already have seen in the show。Once more I wish it was a tad longer, but overall I enjoyed reading it and it was beautifully drawn and coloured。 。。。more

Enjoyable and super quick read。 Not the most compelling story, but art that lands it four stars。 Definetly only worth reading if you know the character。

3。5!

More lore!! I mean, we pretty much knew the latter part of this story from the campaign but seeing how he was treated in the orphanage kinda makes me feel bad for Fjord :( Poor guy。Loved the art and the story。

Best book

Gorgeous artwork - better than the Yasha book by a MILE。 Fjord's backstory is sad, but ends on a hopeful note。 And now I'm dying to find out what the deal was with Sabian。 Maybe we'll hear that story one day! My absolute favorite of this series so far。 The art is gorgeous and the writing is fantastic。

The best of the Mighty Nein, but still not very good。 I’ve read three others and all have been big disappointments after the earlier critical role series。 The story here is a bit more conventional。 A half-orc orphan grows up in a Oliver Twist style workhouse until he goes away to sea。 A major flaw is that everyone is always picking on the ugly half-orc, but he is stunningly handsome, mild-mannered, and smart。 Either make the guy ugly to match the comments, or re-write the dialogue a bit to expla The best of the Mighty Nein, but still not very good。 I’ve read three others and all have been big disappointments after the earlier critical role series。 The story here is a bit more conventional。 A half-orc orphan grows up in a Oliver Twist style workhouse until he goes away to sea。 A major flaw is that everyone is always picking on the ugly half-orc, but he is stunningly handsome, mild-mannered, and smart。 Either make the guy ugly to match the comments, or re-write the dialogue a bit to explain why the best looking guy in the book is constantly belittled for being hideous。 。。。more

This could quite possibly be my favourite of this origin story so far! Fjord has always been a mysterious character with great history, and it was fantastic to see more of his origin。 He endured a great deal of hardship, but ultimately his path led him on the adventure of a lifetime。I particularly enjoyed the interactions with Vandran and the animosity with Sabian。 The writing is very good and the art style is gorgeous。 I highly enjoyed this little novel and recommend it to all fans of Critical This could quite possibly be my favourite of this origin story so far! Fjord 🥺Anyway, I think the Nein should be allowed to hunt Master Grankton for sport。

This and the Jester book were my favourites so far。 Loved it

One of the weaker entries in the mighty nein prequel series, the story walks through Fjord's narrative events without a real beginning middle or end, with tons of subplots built up that are probably resolved in the main campaign。 On its own it's just a snack, not a meal。 One of the weaker entries in the mighty nein prequel series, the story walks through Fjord's narrative events without a real beginning middle or end, with tons of subplots built up that are probably resolved in the main campaign。 On its own it's just a snack, not a meal。 。。。more

I received an ARC copy of this book from EdelweissA nice little graphic novel expanding on Fjord's backstory。 Decent story and good artwork, really the only reason it gets 3 stars is because Fjord was never my favorite character from campaign two so I wasn't overly invested in the story。 Definitely worth a read if you've been reading all the other Critical Role Origin comics though。 I received an ARC copy of this book from EdelweissA nice little graphic novel expanding on Fjord's backstory。 Decent story and good artwork, really the only reason it gets 3 stars is because Fjord was never my favorite character from campaign two so I wasn't overly invested in the story。 Definitely worth a read if you've been reading all the other Critical Role Origin comics though。 。。。more

Rep: POC scs I recently started watching Critical Role。 I started with the Mighty Nein campaign, and I’m currently on episode 38。 I love it and all the characters so much。 So naturally I was super excited to see there’s comics coming out showing parts of their backstories。 Fjord is one of my favorites of the gang, so I was really excited for his comic。 I was not let down。 I like that this started off with the whole gang, then went into his backstory。 It’s cool learning about these characters in Rep: POC scs I recently started watching Critical Role。 I started with the Mighty Nein campaign, and I’m currently on episode 38。 I love it and all the characters so much。 So naturally I was super excited to see there’s comics coming out showing parts of their backstories。 Fjord is one of my favorites of the gang, so I was really excited for his comic。 I was not let down。 I like that this started off with the whole gang, then went into his backstory。 It’s cool learning about these characters in this format。 I would love if these comics were even longer。 Or even if they had full novels。 I could read about them all day。 I love them so much。 I don’t think you need to have watched the campaign to understand the comic。 It could be a good way to introduce new people to the world of Critical Role and the Mighty Nein。 And for people who are already familiar with it, it’s also great because we get to see more of his backstory in depth and spend more time with a beloved character。 Love art was very pretty and vibrant。 Overall, I loved this。 Very pretty and well done。 Thank you to Edelweiss for providing me with an eARC of this book 。。。more

One of the better Critical Role Origins stories。 I liked seeing about Fjord the half-orc's time at the orphanage and apprenticing as a sailor。 The art was good as well。Received a review copy from Dark Horse and Edelweis。 One of the better Critical Role Origins stories。 I liked seeing about Fjord the half-orc's time at the orphanage and apprenticing as a sailor。 The art was good as well。Received a review copy from Dark Horse and Edelweis。 。。。more

I was so excited to be given an electronic ARC of this book by the publisher through Edelweiss。 I just finished the Yasha graphic novel this weekend and jumped on the chance to dive into Fjord's。 Of all of the Mighty Nein Origins out so far, this one might just have my favorite art, especially everything that took place on the ship/at sea。 There was something so dynamic about it。 I also loved getting to see how we got to the Fjord we met at the start of the campaign, seeing the beginning of his I was so excited to be given an electronic ARC of this book by the publisher through Edelweiss。 I just finished the Yasha graphic novel this weekend and jumped on the chance to dive into Fjord's。 Of all of the Mighty Nein Origins out so far, this one might just have my favorite art, especially everything that took place on the ship/at sea。 There was something so dynamic about it。 I also loved getting to see how we got to the Fjord we met at the start of the campaign, seeing the beginning of his transformation。 To me Fjord's change and growth throughout the campaign was some of the biggest so getting the missing pieces made me very happy。Can't wait for everyone to get their hands on this later in the year! 。。。more
